Sorry about the delay! I've just finalized my experiment process. Below is how the study's going to collect the data for analysis. The first survey is now public for any team is willing to participate in the study to fill out!!
Methodology Abstract
The main study subject will be rookie/first-year FRC participants, with around 5-15 FRC students from each participating team (# depends on team size) responding to 2 tests over a 7 week period. Stage 1: Team Background Information Collection Estimated time to complete: Survey — 5~ min Suggested completion date: 12/31/2019 Respondent: ONE mentor or student from each team (preferably one who knows the team well) Short Description: This survey gathers basic information such as team number, team size, team history, etc. The person to fill out the survey will most likely be the correspondent for the next two stages as well. **This survey is currently public and accepting responses/new study participants.
Stage 2: Pre-Build Season Measuring
Estimated time to complete: Survey — 10~ min; Evaluation Test — 20~ min Suggested completion date: 01/09/2020 Respondent: 5-15 first-year members from each team Short Description: Stage 2 and 3 are core parts of this study. The short survey part will gauge the students’ original interest, prior experience with STEM programs, and a few other factors that may affect a student’s learning process. The evaluation test would also be conducted simultaneously to gauge a student’s knowledge in Robotics prior to the build season. A volunteer correspondent from each team will ensure both surveys and tests are completed by at least 5 rookie members before build season; the correspondent themselves should not be assisting. Stage 3: Post-Build Season Measuring Estimated time to complete: Survey — 10~ min; Evaluation Test -- 20~ min Suggested completion date: 02/22/2020 Short Description: Both the short survey and evaluation test should be similar if not exactly same as Stage 2. This is to measure the change in first-year students after a single build season - while bag day doesn’t exist anymore, there’s still a good reference. (Optional) Stage 4: Post-Experiment Survey Estimated time to complete: Survey — Variable length Suggested completion date: 03/02/2020 Short Description: Filled out by anyone who has strong opinions on the process of the experiment. This will be used to detect any flaws in the survey process.
Aaaaand that's it!
